Mount Zion Sanctuary Assemblies

Subject: You are Visible-God Sees Everything

Scripture: Jonah 1

Memory Verse: Proverbs 15:3

Objective: To illustrate the idea that even when we try to hide, God still sees us.

Warm Up: Individuals often enjoy the game of hide and seek. In this activity whether the person who hides or the person who hides an object “knows” where he/he is or the object. Similarly, God always “finds” us, no matter where we are or what we do.

Do you think it’s possible to hide from God? Why or why not?-

  1. What surprise did the first man get when he thought he was hidden from God? Genesis 3:8-12

  2. When Jonah tried to run away from the presence of God, what did God do? Jonah 1:3-4, 11-12, 15-17

  3. What do the following bible characters say about the all-seeing God? (David) Psalm 139:1-2, 7-12, Psalm 121 (Solomon) Proverbs 5:21, Isaiah 29:15, (Peter) 1 Peter 3:12

Note: We live in a world where technological devices are dubbed as “smart.”  Individuals have indulged themselves so much that they create hidden codes for the purpose of hiding from their parents or guardians. Usually, these things are damaging to the mind and become an accepted norm which later influences our lives and distracts the spiritual man. We are reminded God is watching us from a distance.

Discuss situations where youngsters might be tempted to “hide” something, like telling a lie, keeping secrets, or doing something they know is wrong.

  • Why do you think some people try to hide things from God?

  • How can knowing that God sees everything help us make better choices?

4.      While God observes us, what does he expect of us? Psalm 14:2

Note: God sees everything and knows our hearts, thoughts, and actions. We cannot hide from the omnipresent God, and He watches over us with love and purpose.

Reflection:

  • Why did Jonah try to run away from God’s instructions?

  • How did God show Jonah that He sees and cares about everything?

  • What do you think Jonah learned about God during his time in the fish?
