Subject: God’s love on display, how do we measure up?

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 13

Memory Verses: 1 John 3: 18 - 20

Objective: To fully understand the deeper application and implication of “charity”.

Note: The real concept of charity/ love spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13 is not just a trait in one’s character, it is “a way of life”. It is the way Christ lived and the way His followers are expected to live. The church at Corinth with its diverse teachings on religion and various cultures, race, languages and class barriers was perfectly chosen by the Apostle to teach such a lesson.

1. How meaningless is our accomplishments and charitable acts if we do not see others as Christ sees us and treat them accordingly? 1 Corinthians 13: 1 - 3

2. God is all about action when He displays love. How does John characterize this? 1 John 4: 7 - 12

3. Psalm 103: 8 - 14 shows that God’s love is continuous. How does the verses help us to better understand what 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 7 is saying?

4. Since no man has seen God, through whom then will this kind of charity/love be seen? John 13: 34 & 35

5. What is significant about this type of love? 1 Corinthians 13: 8 and why does it supersede faith and hope? John 14: 15; 15: 12 - 14

6. Since the love that we should display is more than giving and receiving things, to what level are we now being called? 1 John 3: 14 - 20; 4: 7 - 11
