Subject: Safeguarding the Marriage Union

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 5: 22 - 33

Memory Verses: Matthew 19: 4 - 6

Objective: To remind the brethren of the importance in protecting and maintaining marriages.

1.When Jesus stated the seriousness of marriage, what was the conclusion of some of His disciples, and how did the conversation end? Matthew 19: 3 – 12

Note: Christ reiterates and affirms that the marriage union is solely between one man and one woman. The introduction of an outside third party is not supported in the masters teaching and often results in the slow and steady demise of the union.

2.How highly has God elevated this union between a man and his wife? Ephesians 5: 22 - 25

3.Christ’s unconditional love for the church is demonstrated by His death. What similar action is required of husbands? Ephesians 5: 25

4.Compare/examine the following:

(a)Christ is mindful of the entire welfare of His church, and so should the husband to his wife. 1 Corinthians 1: 5 - 8

(b)Christ is aware of our very nature and treats us accordingly. Psalm 103: 13 & 14. Husbands are asked to do the same. 1 Peter 3: 1 - 7

(c)The church is considered priceless by the one who bought her; so, should the husband his wife. 1 Peter 1: 18 - 23; Proverbs 31: 10

(d)In appreciation of the love and care demonstrated, the church voluntarily submits to Christ, and so should the wife to her husband. Ephesians 5: 22 - 24; 1 Peter 3: 1 – 6

Note: Marriage needs maintenance to thrive and survive. Couples must speak and demonstrate the godly love as prescribed in scripture to preserve its integrity. Consider these building blocks: faithfulness, patience, affirmation, understanding, compromise, forbearance and forgiveness.

5.How does 1 Peter 3: 8 - 12 make it clear that teamwork makes the dream work?
