Subject: The Consequences of God's Words

Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 8: 1 – 8

Memory Verse: James 1: 21

Objective: To highlight the gravity of the words of God.

Note: The consequences of something are its results or effects. God’s words, which are important, should be able to spark a change in us when we read and understand them.

1. While Ezra, the priest, read the book of the law of Moses, who were the listeners and what was their response? Nehemiah 8: 1 – 3, Note verse 3

2. What attitude of humility was shown by the congregation? Nehemiah 8: 5 – 6

Note: In our now "progressive and civilized society" the words of God are treated with disdain and contempt. Even in the House of God, the words of God are disrespected and dishonoured by our unholy attitude and behaviour. May we, however, seek to emulate the godly attitude displayed by the congregation as they listened to the priest’s reading the words of God.

3. How are the words of God described? John 17: 17, Psalm 119: 43, 105, 140; and how does David regard it? Psalm 119: 147 – 148

4. What admonitions are we given by the apostles’ Paul and James? Colossians 3: 16 – 17, James 1: 19 – 21

5. How are we instructed to make the admonitions of the apostles a reality? 2 Timothy 2: 15, 1 Timothy 4: 13

6. During Jesus' confrontation with the devil, what did He use to counteract the devil's onslaught? Matthew 4: 1 – 11, Luke 4: 1 – 13, Deuteronomy 8: 3

7. What is the duty of Ministers in these last days? 2 Timothy 4: 1 – 4; Titus 2: 1 – 4
