Subject: The State of Man

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3: 1 – 17

Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 3: 13

Objective:  To understand that the state of man does not alter God’s plan.

Introduction: Man was created perfect by a divine God, who gave him a simple instruction to walk in obedience. He, however, was enticed by his own desires and curiosity into disobedience. Let us look at man’s state now in the close of the ages.

1. What was God’s intent for man in Genesis 1: 26 – 28 & Ecclesiastes 12: 13?

2. How was that plan corrupted? Genesis 3: 4 – 7; and what was the result in Genesis 6: 5?

Note: Man through the ages have strayed away from God and that puts him in a state that has become progressively worse. As we examine the state of man, we recognize that he is on a self-destructive path that can only lead to rejection by God.

3. How did Jesus also speak of man’s condition in John 3:19 – 20, and has the state of man improved? 2 Timothy 3: 1 – 7 & 13

4. Will all this madness come to an end? 1 Corinthians 6: 9 – 10; Revelation 20: 12 & 15

5. With man’s current state, is there any way of escape? John 3: 16, Acts 2: 38 and Revelation 22: 14

Conclusion: It is quite clear from the scriptures that the current state of man culminates in his final destruction. The magnitude of sin, blatant disregard of God’s commandment and the open disobedience to His words are all indicators that man is dying. There is however hope for those who embrace the love of God through Jesus Christ and walk in His will to the end.
