Subject: The Way to Humility
Scripture Reading: Luke 18: 9 – 30
Memory Verse: Proverbs 8: 13
Objective: That humility be displayed by members in varying situations.
Introduction: According to the Oxford Dictionary, humility is defined as ‘the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance.’ This does not encourage low self-esteem or discrimination in any shape or form. This virtue allows one to assess one’s ability in each situation.
1. What must be borne in mind if we are to possess this virtue? Proverbs 13: 10, 11: 2 & 16: 18
2. What does God detest? How is the first step made towards humility? Proverbs 8: 13 & 6: 16 – 17
3. God keeps His eyes upon those that are not humble according to 2 Samuel 22: 27 – 28. Who does he consider as wise? James 3: 13
4. How does one show that he is worthy of the Christian vocation? Ephesians 4: 1 – 2
5. When the children of God begin to display humility what are their expectations? James 4: 10 & Proverbs 22: 4
6. What will those who fail to humble themselves receive? Psalm 12: 3 – 4
7. What wonderful feeling did the humble publican go home with? Luke 18: 14
Note: It is not a good thing to ‘show off’. In our pride, God sees us a far off. His holy presence is nowhere near us. While we remain in our vanity, the only thing to achieve is humiliation and an ultimate ‘cut off’ from God.
