Subject: Driven by Desperation

Objective:To highlight the danger of being driven by desperation.


Note: Desperation does not allow someone to think rationally. The result of a desperate action usually carries grave consequences.


1. In a moment of desperation what sin did Lot’s two daughters commit? Genesis 19: 30 – 34


2.  What were the extenuating consequences of this ill-conceived decision? Genesis 19: 36 – 38; 2 Chronicles 20: 1, 10 – 11; Numbers 20: 14 – 21; Psalm 83: 4 – 6


Note: It is human beings who run out of options. The God who created the heavens and the earth is totally able to sustain what he creates. Just think for a moment, Abraham, their grand uncle, could not have been that far away.


3. What other acts of desperation can we learn from? Exodus 32: 1; 1 Samuel 13: 10 – 13


4. In one desperate move, how quickly did God’s people separate themselves from their deliverer? Exodus 32: 7 – 10, and how great was the loss for Saul? 1 Samuel 13: 13 – 14
