Subject: Make Ready

Scripture Reading: Luke 22: 1 - 14

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 5: 7

Objective: To remind the brethren of the necessary preparations for this important meal.

Introduction: An evening meal is usually called a supper. It is important that those who desire to partake of this meal be totally prepared. This preparation includes physical, personal, and spiritual aspects. Let us examine these so that we can be truly ready.

1. What instruction did Jesus give to two of His disciples? Luke 22: 8; and did they carry it out? Luke 22: 13

Note: We can conclude from the scripture that there was obviously a physical preparation. The room was sought, a meal was prepared, and the table was set.

2. Did all the disciples make the effort to be present at the table with the Master? Luke 22: 14

Note: The personal preparation involves making the necessary plans to be at the agreed location. This is not a takeout meal to be delivered to your door in the evening. In the same manner as a bride makes every possible preparation to walk down the aisle, so must we put the necessary measures in place to ensure that we are present for this life-giving meal.

3. What action should be taken during the preparation process? 1 Corinthians 5: 7 - 8

4. Who does the scripture say should be involved in one’s spiritual readiness? 1 Corinthians 11: 28

Note: Spiritual preparedness is the most crucial of them all. When we are not prepared, it is to our own detriment. Spiritual readiness involves checking ourselves against the scriptures while engaging with God in a prayerful and repentant manner.

5. What are the consequences for the froward and ungodly? 1 Corinthians 11: 27 – 30

Conclusion: It is clear from the scriptures that this meal should never be approached in an unprepared manner. We are certain of life when we carefully make the necessary preparations to partake of this meal.  One cannot overemphasize the need to be ready or the caution to those who are brazen enough to sit unprepared. Be ready and live or face the consequences of not being prepared.
