Subject: Murmurings Delay or Deplete the Blessing

Scripture Reading: Numbers 14

Memory Verses: Philippians 2: 14-15

Objective: To open our eyes to the reality that murmuring is a great deterrent in the lives of believers.

1. What is one sure remedy to eradicate this subtle yet harmful sin? Philippians 4: 11 & 12

2. Instead of being consumed with the possession for earthly things, how are children of God admonished? 1 Timothy 6: 5 – 10

3. How are we cautioned to conduct ourselves? Philippians 2: 14 & 15

4. Israel’s journey was extended because of murmuring according to Numbers 14: 26 – 37. How then can we stay away from this type of behaviour? Identify and discuss ways.

5. What are some other undesirable attitudes that we are guilty of that will arouse God’s anger? Numbers 11: 1 – 6 & 31 – 33

6. Will God be lenient with us when we are found practising this ungrateful attitude? 1 Corinthians 10: 1 – 5 & 10

Note: Whether we accept it or not, according to the scriptures, when we murmur and complain, it is a sin punishable by death. It has been said that when we murmur, we agree with the devil that God is unfair and incompetent. Let us ponder these things, lest we experience the wrath of God.

7. We often say murmuring is a sign of ingratitude, but how does God view and respond to it? Numbers 14: 1 – 12

Conclusion: After studying this lesson we should be better able to accept where we are and wait patiently until God moves us to where He wants us to be. Let us learn the art of contentment which will keep us from murmuring and watch God work things out for us.
