Subject: Obstacles are No Reason to Fear

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 17: 1 – 32

Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 1: 7

Objective: To remind us that fear is a tool of the devil, and the only antidote is faith in God.

1.  Describe the obstacle that the Israelite army was faced with. 1 Samuel 17: 4 – 7; Saul, the king and the men of war were petrified, what brings us to this conclusion? 1 Samuel 17: 11, 23 – 25

2.  David, however, displayed great courage, how is this penned? 1 Samuel 17: 26 – 32. Exercising confidence in God at the sight of obstacles always assures us victory. What was the fate of Goliath? 1 Samuel 17: 33 – 58

3.  When death stared the Shunamite woman in the face, how did she respond? 2 Kings 4: 17 – 26

4.  Moses & the children of Israel were faced with the same circumstances, why then did he react differently? Exodus 14: 10 – 14; after searching the promised land, some brought back news of doom, how did a man who trusted the God he served respond? Numbers 13: 25 – 30

5.  Did Elisha show any sign of fear when the Syrian army surrounded them? 2 Kings 6: 13 – 17; what about when the waters of Jordan blocked his path? 2 Kings 2: 12 – 15

6.  According to Daniel 3: 13 – 25, what great testimony is left on record?

Note: Not even an angry king nor the scorching fire that awaited the Hebrew boys made them waiver, instead they stood firm, being resolute that their God was able to deliver to the utmost, and even if deliverance did not come, they were willing & ready to perish in the fire. We too, despite our circumstances, must remain faithful to our God, who is a mighty deliverer.

7.  Being compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, what can we conclude from this lesson? Psalm 46: 1 – 3 & 11
