Objective: To sensitize and remind parents how to impact their children in a godly manner.


1. What can be concluded about children from the following scriptures? Psalm 127: 3 – 5, 128: 3, Genesis 33: 5, Matthew 19: 14


2. Why is it important to recognize the generational aspect of raising children? Deuteronomy 6: 20 – 25, 2 Timothy 1: 5


Note: Parents who know God should raise their children to be Christ-like. God expects us to guide them so that Christian principles will continue throughout each generation.


3. How specifically should children be trained? Ephesians 6: 4; Ecclesiastes 12: 13 - 14; Deuteronomy 6: 6 - 9, 20 & 21


4. What is the goal of disciplining children? Hebrews 12: 9 - 10; Proverbs 13: 24; 19: 18; 22: 15; 23: 13


Note: In Hebrews chasten means disciplinary correction. The goal of discipline is NOT necessarily punishment; but correction, restoration and character development being consistent with God's words. The ‘rod of correction’ when used should not be abusive.


5. Which of the parents should be involved in training children? Exodus 20: 12; Proverbs 1: 8; 1 Timothy 5: 10; Ephesians 6: 4


6. Can differences in raising children drive a wedge between father and mother? Amos 3: 3; Matthew 12: 25; and what comfort is made to parents in Proverbs 22: 6?


7. What are children’s responsibilities to parents? Ephesians 6: 1 - 3; Exodus 20: 12; Proverbs 23: 22
