Subject: Spiritual Authority

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10

Memory Verses: 2 Corinthians 10: 4 – 5

Objective: To understand and exercise the power that Christ left us.

1. What does Paul say about the gospel of Christ? Romans 1: 16

Note: Paul declared that he was not ashamed to proclaim the good news about Jesus - neither before Kings, Jews nor Gentiles - for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes. Paul was granted the authority from man to persecute the saints and he carried out his command with great vigour. Hence, after his conversion, he was able to say that he was not in any way embarrassed to declare the name of Him which is most powerful and who alone is able to give life.

2. How then did he admonish Timothy? 2 Timothy 1: 6 – 8

3. When he was sent to preach the gospel, what did Paul say was the purpose of such authority? 2 Corinthians 10: 8

4. What can be accomplished with this conquering weapon? 2 Corinthians 10: 3 – 5; and does size affect the authority level? Matthew 18: 19 – 20

5. What has Christ given to those who accept Him? John 1: 11 – 12

6. How do we know that we are given special authority? 1 John 4: 13; Galatians 4: 6 – 7

Note: The great wise God of heaven understood and recognized that we all need to be guided. This guidance may come from various authorities, but we are encouraged to embrace the spiritual authority. When we are led by the Spirit of God, we will live in total obedience to His command to enter His eternal kingdom.

7. Why has God given ‘spiritual authority’ to the saints? Ephesians 6: 10 & 12; and how are we to exercise this authority? Ephesians 6: 13 – 18
