Nov 25, 2023

Subject: The Church and Homosexuality

Scripture Reading: Genesis 19: 4 – 25

Memory Verses: Matthew 19: 4 – 5

Objective: To bring a deeper awareness to what the Bible says about same sex relationships.

Introduction:  A tidal wave of homosexuality has infested the world and people have turned to same sex marriages in violation of God's design. The bible makes no accommodation for marital relationships outside that of one man and one woman created and affirmed by God. Anything other than that which is designed by God is forbidden. The church however must stand on the divine order given by God and promote the order for marriage and the family.

1. Identify whose image mankind was made in and the directive given to them at creation. Genesis 1: 27 – 28, Genesis 2: 24, How was this reiterated by Jesus in Matthew 19: 4 – 5?

2. ‘Bones of my Bones’ was the statement used by Adam after God created Eve. How and why was the woman created? Genesis 2: 18 & 21 – 24

3. What does the scripture say about homosexuality and what profound term is given to such an act? Genesis 19: 4 – 11, Romans 1: 24 – 28, Leviticus 18: 22, Leviticus 20: 13

Note: The Bible boldly identifies homosexuality as an abomination - an ungodly sexual act that perverse God’s order. God created man in His own image and with physical differences. Thus, when one attempts to change or disagree with their predominant biological sex with an effort to be physically intimate with the same sex, he/she departs from the God-given nature of sexuality i.e., male and female.

4. Will those engaging in homosexual practices be saved in God's kingdom? 1 Corinthians 6: 9 – 11,Galatians 5: 19 – 21, Revelation 21: 27

5. In the days of Lot, what action was taken against the men who wereadamant to acquaint themselves with his visitors? Genesis 19: 11, 24 – 25

6. Whataction will be meted out to those who refuse to walk away from this practice today? Romans 1: 27 & 32

Note: As with other sins, those who practice this unrighteous act are warned of the danger of not repenting from this defiant lifestyle. God’s gift of Salvation through Jesus is for everyone who believes and accepts His sacrifice. The undiluted words of God have the power to transform the lives of those who currently indulge in such acts. Except one is given over to one's reprobate mind, one is not too far gone to prevent God's acceptance in His fold. The words of this song are true and practical. ‘Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin and be washed in the blood of the Lamb. There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean, O be washed in the blood of the Lamb.’

7. What responsibility does the church have to those who practice homosexuality? Ezekiel 3: 17 – 19, and what is the hope given in 2 Corinthians 5: 17 – 18 and 1 John 1: 9?
