Subject: Utilize Your Gift(s) and Magnify the Office

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12: 12 – 31

Memory Verse: Numbers 16: 9

Objective: To encourage believers to bloom where they are planted.

1. What is the purpose of the various offices given to the church? Ephesians 4: 7 – 16

2. How did God design the different members of the body to function? 1 Corinthians 12: 12 – 20

3. In order to prevent us from trivializing some members of the body, what is said in 1 Corinthians 12: 22 – 26; and where did the "all wise" God place the gift of helps? 1 Corinthians 12: 27 – 31

Note:The word tongues, as used in 1 Corinthians 12: 30,refers to the ability/gift to speak different earthly languages. In this case the Apostle Paul was blessed by God with this gift to carry out his responsibility. Receiving such a mandate to propagate the gospel to a diverse gentile world, God in His infinite wisdom bestowed that gift on him. The ability to speak in different earthly languages is referred to as the tongues of men. (see: 1 Corinthians 13: 1)

4. How is the gift of helps spoken of and demonstrated in scripture? Acts 6: 1 – 8, Acts 4: 31 & 32, Acts 9: 36 – 42, Romans 16: 1 – 6

5. Having received his office, Peter questioned what office John would hold, what answer was given to him? John 21: 15 – 22

6. What warning is given to those who step out of bounds? Numbers 12: 2 – 10, Numbers 16: 1 – 10, 24 – 33, 2 Chronicles 26: 16 – 21

Note:It is not unusual for minor overlap with some gifts, but one must be cautioned not to get carried away in emotions and loose the connection with God. We must bear in mind that it is the work of God within the body of Christ and not a theatrical role. There are serious consequences when a person tries to function in an office that was not divinely given to him. Is God being magnified when your gift is functional?
