Lesson No.

Jan 2, 2021

Subject: We Can Overcome Temptation

Scripture Reading: Matthew 4: 1-11

Memory Verse: James 1: 12

Objective: To empower believers to stand in the face of temptation.

1. What warning did God give to man in Genesis 2: 15 – 17?

2. In tempting the woman, what did the serpent say that convinced her? Genesis 3: 2 – 5

Note: God gave man a command. He knows what’s good for him and had supplied him with enough goods to satisfy him. Adam and Eve never had a temporal or physical need. It was the stimulating of selfish desires that propelled them to greed. Often when we are overcome by the devil, it is to satisfy our greedy hearts. Where there is a need, God promised to take care. We don’t have to touch or taste what God puts a ‘NO’ on.

3. Acknowledging that the flesh is weak, how can we avoid becoming victims of the tempter? Matthew 26: 41

4. How did Christ overcome the persistent devil? Matthew 4: 1 – 4, 7 & 10

5. Paul comforted our hearts in 1 Corinthians 10: 13 – 14, what was his along with James’ advice? James 4: 7 & 8

Note: It is a fact that we don’t have to yield to temptation for God promised to make a ‘get away’ for us. Let us cry out to Him; when we recognize the old dragon approaching, breathe a prayer immediately. Remember, God cannot lie so let us not be led away by our own lust and sinful desires.

6. When we put up a resistance in times of temptation, what great blessing awaits us? James 1: 12; and what assistance did John offer on this? 1 John 2:15 – 17
