God’s Will Takes Precedence
Subject: God’s Will Takes Precedence
Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 7: 1 - 29
Memory Verse: Proverbs 4: 23
Objective: To remind us that God’s will supersedes all others.
Introduction: Even when our intentions are noble and our plans appear righteous, God’s will must remain supreme. The scriptures demonstrate that God works according to His divine purpose, often beyond human understanding. Believers must therefore cultivate hearts that submit willingly to His direction, trusting that His ways are higher than ours.
King David had a most noble idea to build a house for the Lord. How did he respond when the Lord denied his plans? 2 Samuel 7: 8 - 20
Ahithophel featured later in David’s life, even though his counsel was considered invaluable in those days, whose divine will was it that his counsel be rejected in favor of another’s? 2 Samuel 16: 23; 2 Samuel 17: 14
Compared to king David, how differently did Ahitophel react to his counsel being sidelined? 2 Samuel 17: 23
When our motives are pure, what are some scriptures that flood our consciousness allowing us to act right in circumstances of this nature? Isaiah 55: 8 - 9, Romans 11: 33 - 36, 1 Thessalonians 5: 18
To what recommended prayer would king David point those who struggle with similar issues? Psalm 25: 4 - 5; and why? Psalm 25: 12
How does 1 Kings 12: 1 - 15 remind us that God’s will is purpose driven?
How can Psalm 33: 10 - 11 end this lesson?
Note: Proverbs 4: 23 reminds us that we should ‘keep our heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.’ When our counsel/advise are accepted be careful where the praise goes. If on the contrary they are overlooked, be careful of our thoughts.
