What Shall I Do to Inherit Eternal Life?

Subject: What Shall I Do to Inherit Eternal Life?

Scripture Reading: Matthew 19: 16 - 29

Memory Verses: Matthew 19: 16 & 17

Objective: To point us to the way that leads to life.

Introduction: The question of eternal life is the most important question any person can ask. Throughout scripture, individuals sought Jesus and His apostles for the answer to this very question. The Bible clearly outlines the path that leads to eternal life, emphasizing obedience to God, faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and a transformed life.

  1. On these two occasions when Jesus was asked the question of our lifetime, how did He respond? Luke 10: 25 - 28, Matthew 19: 16 - 19; Is Revelation 22: 14 in agreement with Jesus' response?

  1. The miraculous release of Paul from his bonds brought the jailer to consciousness, what was his concern and how did Paul alleviate his fears? Acts 16: 25 - 34; Consider also Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch? Acts 8: 26 - 38

  1. How does Peter encourage us in the scriptures? Acts 2: 37 - 38, Acts 4: 12 & 19; also, what profound declaration did Jesus make? John 14: 6

  1. Read the discourse between Jesus and Nicodemus and identify the contribution made to the subject? John 3: 1 - 17, Matthew 25: 1 - 13

  1. Where else are we pointed to get help in making it in? Matthew 7: 13, 21 - 23, Romans 6: 4 - 13, Matthew 18: 1 - 3

  1. What are some hindrances in inheriting eternal life? Romans 1: 18 - 32, 1 Corinthians 6: 9 & 10, Hebrews 11: 6

  1. Somethings that we take for granted are needful and necessary if we expect to be saved. How does the scripture help us to get it right? Matthew 25: 31 - 46, James 1: 27

Note: People have different opinions and ideology about those who will be saved, but the scriptures speak expressly on the topic. We are pointed to the commandments, one must believe and accept the teachings of Jesus, repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and grow in grace and faith. What we think or how we feel has no bearing on the matter. Since Jesus is the one who has the key to death and hell and He determines who enters, it would be wise for us to pay keen attention to all that He has to say and most importantly obey Him completely. None of us wants to be lost so let us humble ourselves under His mighty hand and sincerely beg Him to take our hands and let us stand where no one stands alone.
