Give of Your Best to the Master
Subject: Give of Your Best to the Master
Scripture: Genesis 4:1–10
Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:9
Objective: Understand that God values the heart and attitude behind what we give or do and to recognize that giving our best honors God and reflects our love for Him.
Warm-Up:
“Best vs. Leftovers”
If you were giving a gift to someone you love, which one would you choose? Why?”
One that’s brand-new, clean, and valuable (e.g., a wrapped gift, fresh fruit).
Something that’s old, used, or half-eaten (e.g., wilted fruit, worn-out shoe).
Questions
1. What made Abel’s offering acceptable to God? Genesis 4:4–5
Note: Cain and Abel both brought offerings to God. Abel offered the best of his flock; the firstborn and fat portions. Cain brought some of his crops, presumably not his best. God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected Cain’s. Think About It: What do you think Cain’s attitude might have been? What does this teach us about the importance of motives?
2. Why does God care more about the heart than the gift? 1 Samuel 16:7
Discussion: How can we make sure our giving—whether money, time, or talents—comes from the right heart?
3. What happens when jealousy or comparison enters our hearts? Genesis 4:6–7
4. How can we “give our best” in daily life—not just in offerings? Colossians 3:23–24
Discussion: If God were to look at your offering—your attitude, your time, your service—would He see your best? How might your attitude change if you viewed everything as “for God”?
5. What example did Jesus set in giving His best? John 15:13
