A Very Present Danger

Subject: A Very Present Danger

Scripture Reading: Revelation 2: 18 - 29

Memory Verses: Revelation 2: 19 & 20

Objective: To unravel the message sent to Thyatira and guard against being seduced.

Note: False prophets and teachers wreaked havoc on the church in the days of old. In this dispensation the church has not been spared. The difference is that they have become more subtle. Believers are called to be more vigilant.

  1. How are we cautioned in Matthew 7: 15 - 17 and how were the saints in Thyatira called out for allowing the spirit of false prophets to co-exist among them? Revelation 2: 18 - 20

Note: Before the church can protect itself from any “false spirit” it must first identify and understand how that spirit operates. The “spirit of Jezebel” is that of a vicious female usurping the authority of the male, more deadly, however, were the elements of falsehood introduced in Israel that led the nation down a dark path.

  1. How were we first introduced to Jezebel? 1 Kings 16: 30 - 33; And what impact did her actions have in 1 Kings 19: 1 & 2; 1 Kings 21: 1 - 15?

  1. What curse was placed on the house of Ahab and his wife for allowing falsehood to permeate the nation of Israel? 1 Kings 21: 20 – 26; And how did these false prophets feature in the demise of king Ahab? 1 Kings 22: 3 - 13, 17 - 28 & 29 - 38

  1. How did Jeremiah rebuke one such false prophet and predict his death? Jeremiah 28: 15 - 17

  1. How are believers warned to remain alert? 2 Peter 2: 1 - 3 & 12 - 15

  1. What motivation was given to the vigilant remnant in Thyatira who did not hold to the doctrine of Jezebel? Revelation 2: 25 - 28

  1. What is still being said to the spiritually blind today? Hosea 10: 12; Revelation 2: 29
