Forgiving One Another

Subject: Forgiving One Another

Scripture Reading: Matthew 18

Memory Verse: Matthew 6: 15

Objective: To highlight the blessings of forgiveness.

1. What is necessary for us to do in order to receive forgiveness of our sins? Mark 11: 15

2. Will God pardon those who do not forgive their fellow men? Matthew 6: 15, Mark 11: 26, Matthew 18: 12

Note: God is not satisfied with lip service or mere formality. We must forgive from the heart and aim not to dwell upon the sins we forgive. When we forgive, we should let go of the past to free our minds from the shackles of the hurt. Let go of the grudge and free your heart.

3. In what condition must our heart be to receive forgiveness? Matthew 6: 12

4. What did God say about grudging? Leviticus 19: 18; And what does the New Testament say about grudging? Matthew 6: 12 - 24, James 5: 9

Note: Jealousy is a predominant sin of this age, just as it was in the days of Joseph and his brothers. Because God favoured Joseph and gave him dreams about the future, they mistreated him and sold him into slavery.

5. How did Joseph, the man of God, forgive his brethren? Genesis 45: 15

6. What happened to the servant who owed a large sum? Matthew 18: 23 - 27; And how did he later treat someone who owed him a small amount? Matthew 18: 32 - 35

7. What treatment did the unmerciful servant receive from his lord? Matthew 18: 32 - 35

8. What should those who fail to show mercy expect? James 2: 13; And for whom was this recorded? 1 Corinthians 10: 11, Romans 15: 4, 2 Timothy 3: 16 - 17
