Marriage Part 5 - After Marriage (Building a Godly Home)

Subject: Marriage Part 5 - After Marriage (Building a Godly Home)

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3: 1 - 9

Memory Verse: Joshua 24: 15

Objective: To provide biblical principles for sustaining a healthy, joy-filled marriage through the inevitable trials, conflicts and seasons of life.

Introduction: The honeymoon inevitably ends, and the daily reality of two imperfect beings living under the same roof begins. Building a lasting, God-honouring marriage requires daily forgiveness, mutual grace and a shared commitment to weather life's storms together. A godly home does not happen by accident; it is constructed day by day on the foundation of God’s words.

  1. Since both spouses will fail, how must a married couple handle conflict and grievances with one another? Ephesians 4: 26 & 31 - 32, Colossians 3: 13

  1. Why is it absolutely essential for husbands to dwell with their wives "according to knowledge", and give them honour? 1 Peter 3: 7

Note: Peter issues a severe warning here: a husband's failure to treat his wife with tenderness, understanding and respect, will literally cause God to stop listening to his prayers. The spiritual atmosphere of the home rests heavily on the husband's gentle leadership.

  1. How can a couple ensure that their home remains a sanctuary of peace, wisdom and hospitality? Proverbs 24: 3 - 4, Romans 12: 10 - 13

  1. What ongoing responsibility do spouses have in helping one another grow spiritually as the years pass? Hebrews 10: 24 - 25, 1 Thessalonians 5: 11

  1. What grand, unwavering declaration should be the motto of every Christian home? Joshua 24: 15

Conclusion: A successful marriage is not one where there are no problems; it is one where a husband and wife face their problems together on their knees. As the years go by, physical beauty may fade, but a marriage rooted in Christ will only grow deeper, richer and more beautiful.
