Outrun, Not Run Out

Subject: Outrun, Not Run Out

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 9: 24 - 27

Memory Verse: Galatians 5: 7

Objective: To make it abundantly clear that winning in this race is not an option, but a must.

  1. How are we told to run this race? Hebrews 12: 1, 1 Corinthians 9: 24 & 26 (first clause)

  1. What doom will those who become faint in heart hear? Galatians 5: 7

  1. Why is it wise for us to continue running this race? Galatians 6: 9, Matthew 24: 13, Hebrews 6: 10

  1. What conscious advice does a man of great wisdom give us? Ecclesiastes 9: 11 (first part)

  1. What empowerments do we receive in these Holy Writings? 1 Corinthians 16: 13 - 14, Ephesians 6: 10, Psalm 60: 11 - 12, John 16: 33, Zechariah 4: 6, Romans 8: 37

  1. Every successful athlete has a very strict diet, wears specific clothing, takes supplements, has a great exercise programme, and a skilled trainer. So then, how should we as Christians proceed? Acts 10: 10 - 14, Daniel 1: 8, Matthew 17: 21, Hebrews 11: 6, 1 Peter 3: 3 - 5, Hebrews 12: 1 - 2

  1. How then can we wrap up this lesson? Revelation 3: 11, 1 Corinthians 9: 27, 1 Corinthians 10: 12, Philippians 3: 14

Note: In running this race of life, speed cannot be our main focus, but rather endurance. In literal track and field, we see some athletes burst out of the blocks like rockets, yet finish last or fail to finish at all. The greatest blessing to us in Christendom is that we are not running alone. We are encouraged that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Let us all be aware that in order to win, we must make a start and remain steadfast. Keep our eyes on the prize and remember that Jesus is cheering us on through every winding path we tread. He will give us grace for every trial and feed us with the living bread.
