Self Control
Subject: Self Control
Scripture Reading: Genesis 4: 1 - 15
Memory Verses: James 1: 19 - 20
Objective: To learn how to display self-control in trying situations.
1. How did Cain behave when his sacrifice was rejected? Genesis 4: 4 -5; and what did God say to Cain? Genesis 4: 6 - 7
Note: Cain’s action is the way of the world which sometimes also creeps into the church of God. We have not done our best, yet we want to hear “well done.” God is impartial and He commends us when we are progressive. However, He reproves us when we fail. God expects His ministers to act in like manner. And of course, He expects us (the followers) to be happy when we are praised for doing well, and to accept in a calm and humble manner, our rebuke for failures and presumptuous sins.
2. Due to lack of self-control, what did Cain do to his brother? Genesis 4: 8 - 9
3. How should the people of God deal with anger? Proverbs 15: 1, Proverbs 19: 11, Proverbs 16: 32, Psalm 37: 7 - 9
4. How does James warn us to control our emotions? James 1: 19 - 20
5. When there are misunderstandings among us, what does God expect us to do? Ephesians 4: 23 - 27, 29 - 32, Colossians 3: 12 - 15; and how may we control hostility and controversies? Isaiah 26: 3
6. Jesus told us that the actions of man begin in the heart. Since this is the case, what must we do? Matthew 22: 37 - 39, Romans 12: 2, Romans 15: 1 - 2, Psalm 51: 10 - 11
7. How should we deal with those who treat us badly? Romans 12: 17 -20
Thought Provoking Question:
Do my actions, when angry, turn people away from God?
