The Signs of the Time
Subject: The Signs of the Time
Scripture Reading: Matthew 24
Memory Verse: Luke 21: 28
Objective: To heighten a sense of VIGILANCE and SOBERNESS in the lives of believers in this last and closing age.
Introduction: Biblical signs are a list of past, present and future events used as warnings, guide and confirmation that Christ will return a second time to execute judgment and complete the great work of redemption. Having the knowledge and understanding of these signs and seeing the fulfilment should bring about a sense of seriousness in our walk with God. These signs were given for us to know the nearness of Christ’s coming but most importantly, for us to be in a state of readiness when He appears.
When Jesus began His ministry what did He preach according to Matthew 4: 12 - 17?
What profound question was asked of Jesus by His disciples about the end of the world? Matthew 24: 3, and after highlighting what is to come (Matthew 24), what did Jesus say we should do when we see these things coming to pass? Luke 21: 28
Though the signs are evident as to the coming of Christ, what will be the response from some according to 2 Peter 3: 4? And what reminder comes to us from Habakkuk? Habakkuk 2: 2 - 3
Note: Jesus, without hesitation, clearly outlined all the signs preceding His second coming. As such, it is important to note that we are not in darkness and are clearly aware of the pending judgment that awaits the world after these are fulfilled. Today we can see prophecy coming to life and warning us of the nearness of Christ Jesus. Let us take the most earnest heed to these signs and warnings and put on our garments of righteousness to make ready to meet our King.
Highlight some of the prophecies being fulfilled today that were spoken of by Jesus according to Matthew 24: 4 - 7, 10 - 12, 23 - 26. In addition to these signs and fulfilment to come, what did Jesus say to show seriousness of these fulfilments? Matthew 24: 34
How disengaged will this generation be whilst all these signs come to fruition and how is the church warned? Matthew 24: 37 - 39 & Luke 21: 34 - 35
After the fulfilment of the signs of Christ coming, what great event will take place? Matthew 24: 30 - 31
What are we encouraged to do in order to be found worthy of Him when He comes? Matthew 24: 42 - 44, Luke 21: 36 & 2 Peter 3: 14
